The World Cup 2018 Draw
The World Cup 2018 draw was held today at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow. The 32 teams were drawn into eight groups of four as follows:
Group A: Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Uruguay
Group B: Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Iran
Group C: France, Australia, Peru, Denmark
Group D: Argentina, Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria
Group E: Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia
Group F: Germany, Sweden, Mexico, South Korea
Group G: Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England
Group H: Poland, Senegal, Colombia, Japan
So what are England’s chances? England have not lost to Belgium in their past 11 meetings but will be well aware of the strengths of their talented squad, many of whom ply their trade in the Premier League – Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku to name but a few. England have played Tunisia on two previous occasions – a draw and a win in their opening game of the 1998 World Cup in France. England have never played Panama, who sealed their place at a first World Cup at the expense of the USA.
If England top their group, their path to the final could see them come up against Colombia, Brazil, France and then Germany. Finish second and it could be Poland, Germany, Spain and then Brazil in the final.
Fantasy Picks and Winner Predictions
Finally, what are the early indications for fantasy picks and winner predictions? Defending champions Germany won all 10 of their qualifying matches scoring 43 goals in the process. Expect them to go far with goals from Sandro Wagner and Thomas Muller. Brazil will be competing for football’s greatest prize and look no further than Neymar and Gabriel Jesus for a clutch of goals and fantasy points. The dark horses may again be Iceland who famously dumped England out of Euro 2016. World 6th ranked side Poland may also go far with goals from Robert Lewandowski and their top 8 seeding.
